Attack on Titan Episode 19: Bite: 57th Expedition Beyond the Walls (3)

Squad Levi continues fleeing through the forest on horseback while pursued relentlessly by the Female Titan, as reinforcements from the Scouting Legion arrive to engage her but are quickly killed one by one.

The squad pleads with Levi for orders to fight back, but he tells them to cover their ears and fires an acoustic signal grenade, reminding them of their sole mission: protect Eren at all costs, even if it means their own lives. Eren, surprised to learn they view him as more than just someone to monitor, protests as he watches the reinforcements die, insisting that Squad Levi is best suited to defeat the Female Titan and that they can't abandon the dying soldiers. Petra urges him to obey Levi and reminds him of his promise, while Eld and Gunther tell him to keep riding at full speed.

Eren bites his hand in frustration, attempting to transform into a Titan to fight, but nothing happens; Petra stops him anyway, and Levi tells the squad to stand down as they draw blades against Eren. Hange arrives ecstatic, touching the steaming, skinless Titan flesh on Eren's partially manifested arm before he pulls it free, causing the remnant to evaporate; she bombards him with excited questions until he yells at everyone to be quiet. Later, in a stone well, Eren fails multiple transformation attempts despite biting his hand repeatedly, and his wounds do not heal automatically; over tea, a dropped spoon triggers another partial manifestation on his arm.

Hange explains to the squad that Eren can only fully transform when two conditions are met: self-inflicted injury and a strong intent or goal. In apology for their earlier distrust and harsh reaction, Eld, Oluo, Petra, and Gunther each bite their own hands in solidarity, admitting they were scared and promising mutual reliance. Eren recalls Petra's self-inflicted wound and agrees to continue with the squad under Levi's lead, despite hearing more dying screams behind them as the Female Titan accelerates to catch up.

The squad passes hidden Scouts in the trees and on the ground; Commander Erwin signals the trap, unleashing hundreds of wires, hooks, cannons, and explosions that ensnare the Female Titan and bombard her nape, restraining her as Levi hands lead to Eld and rides off with Erwin, both intent on discovering her identity.
