Attack on Titan Episode 22: The Defeated: 57th Expedition Beyond the Walls (6)

Mikasa and Captain Levi pursue the Female Titan to rescue Eren. Levi orders Mikasa to act as bait while he attacks, warning her not to attempt killing it due to its ability to harden its skin.

Mikasa positions herself in front of the Female Titan to distract it, but it targets Levi instead. Levi swiftly slices off its arm, stabs both eyes, equips new blades, and attacks from all directions at blinding speed, preventing it from hardening. Mikasa watches in awe as Levi exposes the nape.

Defying orders, Mikasa lunges to kill it, forcing Levi to protect her and injuring his ankle in the process. Levi cuts through the Female Titan's mouth, extracts the unconscious, saliva-covered Eren, and orders Mikasa to retreat while scolding her for prioritizing her feelings for Eren over the mission. Mikasa hesitates briefly before complying. Levi glances back and notices the Female Titan shedding tears as it slumps against a tree.

The Scouts recover fallen comrades' corpses, with Erwin ordering unrecovered bodies reported as missing in action. Two soldiers, Dieter and another, beg Erwin and Levi to retrieve a friend's body surrounded by Titans; both refuse to avoid further casualties. The soldiers retrieve it anyway, but Titans pursue the retreating wagons.

Chased by two Titans—with Mikasa killing one—Levi reluctantly orders dumping corpses to lighten the load and escape. Soldiers throw bodies from the carts in despair, including one that appears to be Petra's, visibly affecting Levi. The Scouts return to Calaneth behind Wall Sina in bitter defeat. Erwin receives orders to transport Eren to the capital.
