Attack on Titan Episode 60: The Other Side of the Sea

In the year 854, the nation of Marley has been at war with the Mid-East Allied Forces for four years. Marley's forces, composed mostly of Eldians under Marleyan officers, aim to capture Fort Slava to destroy the Allied Forces' fleet.

On the battlefield, a young soldier named Falco is injured and carried to safety by his brother, Colt. In a trench, Falco receives first aid while Colt reports to Commander Magath that digging another trench is impossible due to artillery fire. Falco's comrade, Gabi, reminds him of their mission to capture Fort Slava. Falco questions why they, as candidates, are on the front lines, and Gabi explains they are being tested to determine who will inherit the Armored Titan. Fellow candidates Udo and Zofia believe Gabi will be chosen due to her high scores, but Gabi states her determination to exterminate the "evil Eldians" on Paradis Island and free the Eldians in Marley's internment zone is her true motivation.

Colt informs Magath that their soldiers cannot destroy the fort's rail tracks and they face annihilation from artillery. Colt suggests releasing their Warriors, Galliard and Pieck, who possess the Jaw Titan and Cart Titan, respectively. Magath rejects this, unwilling to risk them yet. Koslow then reports that the fort is deploying a new weapon: anti-Titan artillery mounted on an armored train, capable of killing any Titan with a single shot. Colt argues Galliard and Pieck's Titans are fast enough to evade shots, but Magath, citing the loss of the Colossal and Female Titans, orders an 800-man Eldian unit to prepare to fight. Colt protests, but Magath reminds him he needs to change his attitude if he hopes to inherit the Beast Titan. The traumatized Eldian unit is prepped to rush enemy trenches and destroy the armored train.

As the armored train approaches, Gabi asks Magath to allow her to destroy the artillery herself. After some reluctance, Magath agrees. Gabi removes her uniform and armband before leaving the trench in plain clothes. Two Allied soldiers spot her but miss the small bomb tied to her ankle. They hesitate to shoot, fearing she might be an Eldian with Titan powers, then are surprised when she collapses. Gabi waits for the anti-Titan artillery to draw closer, then throws her bomb onto its tracks, derailing it. An enraged soldier begins firing at her. Magath gives Galliard the order to transform.

Falco, seeing Gabi in danger, leaves the trench to stop her. As he reaches Gabi, Galliard appears, using his Titan to shield them from fire before charging and destroying the outpost where the two Mid-East soldiers were. With the armored train disabled, Zeke and Reiner are ordered to begin their plan to parachute into Fort Slava.

Marley's Eldian unit advances on Fort Slava. The Mid-East Allied Forces retreat in terror as Galliard's Jaw Titan massacres them. Mid-East soldiers fire at the approaching Eldians, but Pieck's Cart Titan, outfitted with machine guns and carrying four soldiers, dispatches them. As Pieck and Galliard fight, Falco drags an injured Mid-East soldier to safety, drawing his superior's ire. Gabi assumes Falco is trying to prove he follows international law to earn the Armored Titan, which Falco denies. He asks Udo to translate the injured soldier's words; Udo reveals the soldier is calling the Warrior candidates "devils," which makes a Marleyan superior laugh. A flare signals withdrawal, and the Eldian soldiers retreat as Zeke's forces exit an airship above Fort Slava.

After all captive Eldians are parachuted from the airship, Zeke roars, transforming them into Pure Titans. Dozens of Titans rain down on Fort Slava, crushing soldiers and buildings. Roughly half die on impact, but the rest rise and devour the remaining Mid-East soldiers inside the fort. As the Warrior candidates and their superiors watch, one superior notes that many Marleyans were devoured in the same way.

As he parachutes into Fort Slava, Reiner notes the remaining anti-Titan artillery and the fort's wall. Recalling his time on Paradis Island, Reiner angrily transforms into the Armored Titan upon landing, destroying a large section of the wall. He attacks the remaining artillery but realizes even his armor is vulnerable to their shells. He is caught off-guard when his left arm is severed by a second armored train. Reiner changes targets, derailing the train, losing the rest of his left arm in the process. He is almost shot by regular anti-Titan artillery, but Galliard intervenes, destroying one cannon and drawing fire. With soldiers focused on Galliard, Reiner grabs the derailed train, using it as a shield and spear to deflect shells before annihilating the remaining soldiers and cannons. With targets destroyed, Reiner signals Zeke.

Zeke, noting Reiner's signal as he parachutes, reflects that the Warriors' defeat on Paradis Island led to the war. Transforming into the Beast Titan, Zeke gathers unused artillery shells and hurls them at the Mid-East fleet. The fleet turns its weapons on him and returns fire. Zeke is unable to dodge and is saved when Reiner uses his Titan as a shield. With some ships still operational, Zeke launches a second barrage, sinking the remaining fleet.

Having lost their fleet, the Mid-East Allied Forces agree to a peace treaty with Marley, ending their four-year war. The revelation of weaponry capable of destroying Titans highlights Marley's increased need for the Founding Titan. In a city in Marley, civilians celebrate the victory as a mysterious man reads a newspaper.
