Breaking Bad Episode 53: Say My Name

Walter White, Jesse Pinkman, and Mike Ehrmantraut meet with Declan, a Phoenix-based drug distributor, to negotiate over heisted methylamine. Instead of accepting Declan’s offer to buy the methylamine for $15 million in exchange for removing Walt’s blue meth from the market, Walt proposes a counteroffer: he will sell his superior product through Declan’s network in exchange for a large share of the business and a one-time $5 million payment to Mike. Declan initially refuses but accepts after Walt reveals he is the infamous **Heisenberg**—the man who killed Gus Fring—and commands him to “**Say my name**,” which Declan does reluctantly.

Jesse attempts to leave with his share of the money, but Walt avoids him and refuses to give him the cash. Jesse later confronts Walt, demanding his portion, but Walt cruelly insults Jesse, accusing him of having nothing in his life. Manipulation fails, and Jesse leaves without the money, further angering Walt.

Meanwhile, Mike discovers through surveillance bugs that the DEA has a search warrant for his house. He prepares an escape by stashing a car in an airport parking lot containing a go-bag with cash, a passport, and a gun. When Hank Schrader and Steve Gomez search Mike’s house, they find nothing. Later, Hank orders Gomez to follow Mike’s attorney, Dan Wachsberger, who is caught depositing illegal drug money. The DEA arrests Dan, who plans to reveal everything he knows about Mike.

Walt, pretending to be distraught over Skyler, visits Hank at his office and removes the surveillance bugs. During the visit, he overhears Gomez telling Hank that Dan has been arrested and will cooperate fully.

Mike asks Saul Goodman to retrieve his go-bag, but Saul fears the DEA is watching him. Mike decides to get the bag himself. A heated argument erupts between Mike and Walt, in which Mike criticizes Walt’s egotism and accuses him of ruining their stable operation under Gus Fring.

Jesse, learning Mike is in trouble, offers to help retrieve the bag, but Walt intervenes, claiming Jesse is “out of the game” and volunteering to help instead.

In a deserted wooded area, Walt delivers a parcel to Mike containing money, a passport, and a gun. They quarrel about Mike’s list of nine imprisoned men Walt is paying off; Walt demands the names, but Mike refuses. In a fit of fury, Walt shoots Mike. Mike’s car veers off the road and crashes into a tree stump. Mike stumbles to a nearby lake, sits on a rock, and bleeds to death. Walt arrives, apologizes, and claims he could have gotten the names from Lydia instead. Mike tells him to shut up so he can die in peace.

With Mike dead and Jesse out of the operation, Walt is left to manage his drug empire alone, cooking his next batch with Todd, who proves more obedient than Jesse. Hank later discovers a mole within Mike’s operation, setting the stage for future revelations.
