Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Episode 17: You Must Master a Single Thing

Zenitsu wanders through the eerie forest on Mount Natagumo, freaking out over the giant spiders everywhere. He encounters horrifying spider demons with human heads scuttling around, then flees in terror from a larger one called Aniki, who reveals that its venom bite—already inflicted on Zenitsu—will transform him into one of those hybrids within 30 minutes.

Panicking in a tree as the poison takes hold, with his hair starting to fall out in clumps, Zenitsu despairs over his inadequacies and passes out. Flashbacks reveal his past: as an orphan drowning in debt, he was rescued by his master, Gramps (Jigoro Kuwajima), a former Demon Slayer who trained him harshly to join the Corps in exchange for clearing his debts.

During training, Zenitsu constantly ran away, feeling worthless compared to the bullying senior student Kaigaku, who called him a waste of time; one day, a lightning strike turned his black hair yellow. Gramps taught him Thunder Breathing but emphasized mastering just **one single thing** perfectly rather than spreading efforts thin, permitted him to cry or flee but never to give up, and was the only one who never abandoned him.

Awakening in his unconscious trance state, Zenitsu unleashes lightning-fast speed with **Thunder Breathing, First Form: Thunderclap and Flash**, effortlessly decapitating Aniki despite the demon mocking his single mastered technique. Crippled by the spreading poison, conscious Zenitsu uses breathing exercises to slow it, acknowledges his own strength for the first time, and sends his worried sparrow Chuntaro to seek help.

Meanwhile, Tanjiro senses Zenitsu's attack from afar and prepares to investigate, but the timid "Daughter" spider demon appears, fleeing as she calls for her "Father," who descends from above to attack Tanjiro and Inosuke, who had been pursuing her.
