Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Episode 2: Trainer Sakonji Urokodaki

Tanjiro weaves a bamboo basket and coaxes his demon-turned sister Nezuko inside, where her body shrinks to fit after a few attempts. As they travel through the evening toward Sakonji Urokodaki on Giyu's instructions, locals warn of recent troubles, and Tanjiro soon smells blood from a nearby temple.

Entering the temple, Tanjiro discovers a demon feasting on mutilated human victims; Nezuko drools briefly at the sight before turning away. The demon lunges at Tanjiro, overpowering him, but Nezuko bursts from the basket and kicks the demon's head clean off with immense strength.

The severed head grows arms from its neck and taunts them, questioning why a demon like Nezuko sides with a human, while the headless body attacks Nezuko and drags her into the woods. Tanjiro headbutts the head, pinning it to a tree with its own hair, then pursues the body; he shoves it off a cliff but nearly falls himself, only for Nezuko to save him by grabbing his arm.

Returning to the pinned head, Tanjiro hesitates to kill it with his knife, concerned about its suffering despite its crimes. A masked man in a tengu mask—Sakonji Urokodaki—appears behind him, stating the knife won't work and urging Tanjiro to figure it out himself; he observes Tanjiro's struggle to smash the head with a boulder, deeming him too sentimental and weak-willed for demon slaying.

As dawn breaks, sunlight vaporizes the demon's head; Urokodaki berates Tanjiro's hesitation, warns that allowing Nezuko to harm innocents would be unforgivable, and tests his fitness for the Demon Slayer Corps. Impressed by Tanjiro's determination despite his empathy, Urokodaki accepts him as a student.
