Dexter Episode 2: Crocodile

Dexter is pulled between two cases and his private life: he keeps receiving unsettling signs from the Ice Truck Killer, follows a drunk-driving manslaughter defendant named Matt Chambers as a possible target, and deals with a new police investigation into the murder of Officer Ricky Simmons.

Debra visits Dexter to talk about the Ice Truck Killer case, and Dexter examines the Barbie doll the killer left in his apartment, noticing that the painted fingernails on the doll’s hands are different. He also gives evidence at a trial before heading into another courtroom where Matt Chambers is being tried for manslaughter after killing a teenager while drunk driving.

Dexter goes to the Westbound Causeway crime scene and notices a piece of human flesh in the dead victim’s mouth. The victim is later identified as police officer Ricky Simmons, and Miami Metro continues its investigation into his death. At the station, Debra tells Dexter about her new boyfriend Sean, and the two of them, along with Dexter’s girlfriend Rita, make plans for a lunch date.

Dexter then tells Rita about the double date and prepares his kill room before going out. During the lunch, Rita becomes insecure when she sees how easily Debra and Sean get along, and Dexter struggles to reassure her. Later, Rita and Dexter agree not to have sex until Rita is ready.

Debra is promoted to Homicide by Captain Tom Matthews. Meanwhile, Lt. Maria LaGuerta and Sgt. James Doakes deal with the aftermath of the murder of an undercover officer tied to Carlos Guerrero; when they inform the officer’s wife, they discover she has been attacked as well. LaGuerta also confronts Doakes about his relationship with the victim’s wife and agrees to keep it quiet so he can stay on the case.

Dexter spots Guerrero and briefly considers killing him, but decides against it. Instead, he kidnaps Chambers, forces him to confess, kills him, and disposes of the body. When Dexter returns home, he finds evidence that the Ice Truck Killer has broken into his apartment again.
