Dexter Episode 54: Everything Is Illumenated

Dexter starts the episode by moving his belongings out of Rita’s house and preparing to sell it, while Debra has agreed to leave his apartment, giving him a chance to put his blood slides back where he hides them. Believing Lumen has returned to Minneapolis, he tries to get back to his old routine and sets his sights on a new target, Lance Robinson, a man who arranges secret sexual encounters with other men and whose partners later turn up dead.

Dexter meets Lance, drugs him, and gets him into an RV, planning to kill him. Before he can begin, Lumen calls and reveals that she is actually in Miami and needs help because she has shot one of the men who raped her. Dexter leaves Lance sedated in his vehicle and goes to a warehouse where Lumen is waiting over the body of a wounded man, Dan Mendell, who has not actually died and has managed to flee from where Lumen shot him.

Dexter and Lumen follow the blood trail through the warehouse and find Mendell. As Dexter questions him, he realizes Mendell is a dentist with a family and tries to get to the truth about what happened. While Dexter and Lumen argue, Mendell uses Lumen’s phone to call another man involved in her assault and warns him that Lumen is alive, which makes the danger around her much worse. Dexter then kills Mendell.

Meanwhile, Debra and Angel are staking out Club Mayan in hopes of catching the Fuentes brothers, but they are pulled away when reports come in about gunshots at the warehouse. Dexter gets Lumen back to Rita’s house, where she stays while he deals with the aftermath.

Back at the RV, Lance wakes up, tries to escape, and forces Dexter to finish the job. Dexter kills Lance as well, then stages the two deaths to cover their tracks. The episode ends with Lumen opening up about her past and how she ended up running from her own wedding, and Dexter deciding to help her find the men responsible for what happened to her.
