Dexter Episode 72: This Is the Way the World Ends

Dexter is rescued from the ocean by a migrant boat after surviving the night adrift. He later helps identify Travis’s hideout, where the police find a gruesome double murder scene and evidence of the final tableau, including a face painted to resemble the Beast.

Travis, realizing the police are closing in, hides out in Dexter’s apartment and discovers Harrison there with Jamie. He decides Harrison will be the final sacrifice and abducts him.

Meanwhile, Deb assigns officers to guard likely skyscraper targets after following a hunch that the last tableau will be carried out in downtown Miami. Dexter attends Harrison’s Noah’s Ark play, then races to the skyscraper Travis has chosen and arrives just in time to stop the sacrifice.

At the rooftop, Travis forces Dexter to inject himself with a tranquilizer, but Dexter has switched the drug for a fake. He overpowers Travis, knocks him unconscious, and the police later find the rooftop officer dead with Travis gone.

Deb, emotionally overwhelmed after a therapy session in which she reflects on Dexter telling her he loves her, decides she wants to tell him she is in love with him. At the same time, Travis wakes up on Dexter’s kill table in the abandoned church and insists he was doing God’s work.

Deb goes to the church unannounced and sees Dexter killing Travis. Dexter looks up and realizes she has witnessed it, ending the episode in shock.
