Dexter Episode 80: Argentina

Season 7· aired 2012-11-18

Fresh out of jail, Isaak renews his pursuit of Dexter while Quinn continues his power struggle with the Koshkas. Dexter tries to keep Debra in the dark about his relationship with Hannah, but a surprise visit from Astor, Cody and Harrison throws a wrench into his plans.

Full recap

Dexter tells Debra he will **not** kill Hannah, despite her insistence that Hannah deserves it and her attempt to justify the request by pointing to her own guilt and the people she has hurt. He argues that killing Hannah would not erase what Debra has done and would leave Debra carrying that choice forever.

At Hannah’s place, Dexter tries to carry on with his life while keeping the relationship quiet, but his plans are disrupted when he learns that **Astor, Cody, and Harrison** are coming to Miami because their grandfather needs surgery. Dexter is forced to manage the sudden family visit while also dealing with the increasing pressure around Hannah.

Meanwhile, **Isaak Sirko** continues closing in on Dexter after getting out of jail. Dexter stops by Isaak’s apartment after deducing Isaak may be staying there, only to find that a hired killer has already been sent there to eliminate Isaak. In the confrontation that follows, Dexter kills the hitman in the apartment.

Dexter later has to deal with the fallout from Isaak’s continued pursuit, including a close call in which he narrowly escapes a drive-by shooting attempt while out buying donuts. Isaak’s campaign against Dexter intensifies as the episode goes on, but Dexter also begins to learn more about what is driving Isaak’s obsession.

Debra’s emotional state becomes increasingly volatile. She confronts Dexter about Hannah and eventually reveals more of her own feelings than she intended, including that she is deeply affected by his relationship with Hannah. In the episode’s most revealing exchange, Debra admits that she is in love with Dexter.

The episode also brings **Astor and Cody** back into Dexter’s orbit after a long absence, as they arrive with Harrison because of the family emergency. Their arrival adds another layer of strain to Dexter’s efforts to keep his personal life under control.

Elsewhere, **LaGuerta** continues investigating the Bay Harbor Butcher case and edges closer to connecting Dexter to it. Quinn is also pulled deeper into trouble with the Koshka Brotherhood, while Batista is shown pursuing his own life change by buying a restaurant.

Near the end, Dexter follows Isaak’s trail far enough to learn the truth behind Isaak’s hatred: Isaak reveals that Viktor and he were lovers. The episode closes with Debra sharing a joint with Astor, Isaak alone in his hideout listening again and again to Viktor’s last voicemail, and Dexter returning to Hannah while reflecting on what “home” means to him.
