Full recap

Sansa wakes from a nightmare and discovers she has her first period, which means she is now able to bear Joffrey’s children. When she tries to hide the blood, Shae helps her, but they are overheard by a servant, and the news quickly reaches Cersei; later, the Hound is also aware of it.

Tyrion and Cersei discuss the coming attack on King’s Landing and Joffrey’s plan for defending the city. Cersei admits to Tyrion that Joffrey is the result of her relationship with Jaime and that she sees his cruel behavior as punishment for that sin. Tyrion tries to comfort her, but the conversation remains strained.

At Harrenhal, Tywin investigates the killing of Amory Lorch and concludes that the murder was meant as an attempt on his own life. Over dinner with Arya, he becomes convinced that she is of noble birth, though he does not yet know who she really is.

Jon Snow continues searching for the Night’s Watch party beyond the Wall with Ygritte as his captive. Ygritte argues that life would be better with the wildlings, and when she gets the chance she escapes; Jon chases her, but he is soon surrounded by wildlings and captured.

At Winterfell, Theon Greyjoy wakes to find that Osha has disappeared overnight, along with Bran, Rickon, Hodor, and the direwolves. Furious, he blames his men for failing to stop the escape, beats one of them for mocking him, and leads a hunt with dogs and riders to track the fugitives down. The search reaches a farm where the boys had been, but the scent is lost, and Theon orders Maester Luwin returned to Winterfell. He then goes back to the castle and hangs two burned children’s bodies at the gate to convince the inhabitants that Bran and Rickon are dead, causing Maester Luwin to cry out in grief.

Jaime Lannister is held captive and briefly appears to gain a chance to escape, but he is recaptured before getting away. Rickard Karstark demands Jaime’s execution for killing his son, but Catelyn refuses to let it happen until Robb Stark returns.

Daenerys searches for her stolen dragons in Qarth. As she and Jorah pursue the theft, they learn of a new political maneuver among the Qartheen, with Xaro moving to increase his power.
