Game of Thrones Episode 22: Dark Wings, Dark Words

Bran dreams of chasing the three-eyed raven through the woods, only to be told by a mysterious boy that the raven represents himself. He wakes and tells Osha about the dream, and the two continue traveling with Hodor and Rickon until Osha grows uneasy about being followed.

At the camp in the Riverlands, Robb receives devastating news: Winterfell has been burned, Bran and Rickon are missing, and his grandfather Hoster Tully has died. Robb and Catelyn travel to Riverrun for Hoster’s funeral, where Robb is increasingly challenged by tension among his bannermen, especially Lord Karstark, who questions Robb’s decisions and the war’s prospects.

Theon Greyjoy is shown imprisoned and tortured at Winterfell, with his captors still keeping their purpose and identity unclear.

Jon Snow continues north with the wildlings and struggles to earn Mance Rayder’s trust. Mance remains suspicious, speaking with Orell after Orell claims to have seen the aftermath of the battle at the Fist of the First Men through the eyes of an animal.

Brienne of Tarth keeps escorting Jaime Lannister toward King’s Landing. After a farmer warns them about danger on the road, Jaime urges Brienne to kill him in case he recognizes Jaime, but she refuses; later, near a bridge, Jaime grabs one of Brienne’s swords and fights her. Brienne gains the upper hand, but before the situation is resolved, they are captured by a group of riders sent by Roose Bolton, with the farmer helping identify Jaime.

Arya, Gendry, and Hot Pie are stopped by the Brotherhood Without Banners and brought to an inn. There they meet Thoros of Myr and the Brotherhood’s men, and Arya briefly spars with Thoros before the group’s captive is brought in, revealing the Hound among their prisoners.

In King’s Landing, Sansa spends time with Margaery Tyrell and her family. Margaery questions Sansa gently and gets her to admit that Joffrey is cruel, while also showing interest in spending time with him and his crossbow, helping further draw Joffrey toward her.
