Game of Thrones Episode 52: Home

Bran returns to the Stark family’s past in a vision, while Sansa continues north with Brienne and Theon toward Castle Black. In the other storylines, Jon is brought back to life at Castle Black, Ramsay takes control of Winterfell by murdering his father, and Tyrion frees Daenerys’s dragons in Meereen.

Bran is with the Three-Eyed Raven in the woods beyond the Wall, where he is shown a vision of Winterfell from many years earlier. He sees a young Ned Stark, Benjen Stark, and Lyanna Stark at the castle, and he also learns the childhood name of Hodor, who could once speak normally. The Three-Eyed Raven pulls Bran out of the vision and warns him not to stay too long in the past. Afterward, one of the Children of the Forest tells Meera that Bran will soon need her help.

Sansa travels through the cold woods with Brienne and Theon after leaving Winterfell. Brienne tells Sansa that she saw Arya alive, and Sansa admits she should have accepted Brienne’s protection earlier. Theon, overwhelmed by guilt over his past betrayal, decides not to go with them to Castle Black and leaves on his own.

At Castle Black, Jon’s body lies dead while Davos, Tormund, Edd, and Melisandre gather in the room with him. Davos asks Melisandre to try to save Jon, and after she performs a ritual over the body and the others wait in silence, Jon suddenly wakes up and gasps for breath. Outside that room, Alliser Thorne and the other mutineers are forced into surrender when the wildlings arrive and support Jon’s allies.

In Winterfell, Ramsay learns that his father’s new son has been born, threatening his claim to inheritance. He responds by killing Roose Bolton and then ordering Walda and the baby to be fed to the hounds. With Roose dead, Ramsay takes control of Winterfell for himself.

In King’s Landing, the episode briefly shows political tension around Tommen and Cersei, though the main action quickly shifts elsewhere. Tyrion makes a daring move in Meereen by opening the dragon pit and freeing Viserion and Rhaegal, who had been chained beneath the city.

Arya continues her harsh training in Braavos and faces the Waif in combat, but she performs badly. Jaqen H’ghar then approaches her with food, a bed, and the chance to recover her sight, but Arya refuses his offer and is told to follow him because she no longer needs to live on the streets.
