Full recap

Bronn pulls **Jaime** from the water after the battle, and Jaime realizes how outmatched Cersei’s side is now that Daenerys has dragons and the Dothraki behind her. Back at King’s Landing, Jaime reports the scale of the defeat to Cersei and tells her the enemy is overwhelming, but she is unmoved; he also tells her that Olenna admitted to killing Joffrey before dying, which Cersei initially resists believing before accepting it.

At the same time, Jon, Daenerys, Tyrion, and their allies shift from open war to a plan to prove the White Walkers are real. Tyrion proposes that they capture a wight and bring it south to convince Cersei to make a temporary peace, and Jon volunteers to go north of the Wall to lead the mission.

In Winterfell, Arya watches Littlefinger closely and ends up finding the letter Sansa was forced to write years earlier, the one asking Robb to bend the knee to Joffrey. The discovery plants more suspicion between the Stark sisters and gives Littlefinger another piece to manipulate the situation.

In the south, Sam grows increasingly frustrated with the Citadel’s rules and treatment of him, and he decides to leave with Gilly and their child. His departure is tied to his growing sense that the maesters are ignoring what matters about the White Walkers.

Daenerys then confronts the surviving Lannister soldiers and demands that they swear loyalty to her. Randyll Tarly and his son Dickon refuse, Tyrion pleads for another punishment, but Daenerys orders Drogon to burn them alive, and the rest of the soldiers quickly kneel.

Jon, Jorah, Davos, and Gendry travel to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, where Tormund is in command. Tormund says he has already captured a group of men trying to go beyond the Wall, and those men turn out to be the Hound and members of the Brotherhood Without Banners. After some tense banter and mutual distrust, the group agrees to join forces for the dangerous journey north.

The episode ends with the combined party preparing to head beyond the Wall to capture a wight.
