Hunter x Hunter Episode 18: Big x Time x Interview
Gon and his friends have been trapped inside a cave by poisonous snakes. Bourbon, the person responsible for the trap, is already dead, and nobody knows how to disarm the trap. Meanwhile, Leorio, who was bitten by the snakes, is growing weak. Gon manages to get them out of the sticky situation and through to the final phase of the exam. But first, Netero wants an interview with each of the remaining applicants...

Gon and Kurapika enter the cave where Leorio went and find him on the ground with bite marks. Ponzu explains that Bourbon, who controlled the snakes, is dead after she accidentally killed him. She also reveals that the snakes will attack anyone who touches Bourbon or tries to leave the cave. Kurapika examines Bourbon's wounds and deduces how he died. Ponzu recounts her fight with Bourbon, which involved her bees, and states that Bourbon was her target.
Ponzu gives up on passing the exam, intending to wait for examiners to rescue her using a tracking device on their badges. However, Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio cannot wait due to the poison spreading through Leorio's body from the snake bites. Gon bravely decides to search Bourbon for an antidote. The snakes surround and attack him, but he successfully finds the medicine.
Gon and Leorio are saved. Gon quickly recovers and asks Ponzu about her sleeping gas to incapacitate the snakes so they can escape the cave. He offers to trade Bourbon's badge, which he acquired along with the medicine, for her sleeping gas. Ponzu agrees but warns that it will take five minutes for the gas to take full effect, and no one can hold their breath for that long. Gon boasts about his own breath-holding record. The gas is released, and Gon holds his breath to remain conscious. He carries all three of them out of the cave. Outside, he gives Bourbon's badge to Ponzu but takes her badge as a service fee while she is still unconscious. With Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio each having six points, the Fourth Phase of the exam concludes, and the successful participants are taken to their next destination.
The Chairman and the examiners discuss the Final Phase of the exam, which the Chairman describes as a peculiar fight. Before the fights begin, the Chairman interviews each examinee, asking who they would and would not want to fight. After the interviews, the Chairman reveals the fight bracket to the examiners, explaining that a single win will make an applicant a Hunter. Meanwhile, Gon and Kurapika discuss the Fourth Phase, and Gon tells Kurapika about his encounter with Hisoka. Afterward, Gon and Kurapika thank each other for their help.
