Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 50: About the Culling Game

Season 3· canon

Itadori and his friends speak with Tengen about Kenjaku's objectives and their plans for the Culling Game.

Full recap

The episode opens with Yuji, Megumi, Yuta, Maki, Choso, and Yuki gathered at Tengen’s barrier, where they meet Tengen in person for the first time. Tengen greets the group, but Yuji immediately interrupts to ask why Tengen looks so unusual. Tengen explains that twelve years ago, after the death of the Star Plasma Vessel Riko Amanai, their body began to age rapidly despite being immortal. This accelerated aging caused Tengen’s individual identity to dissolve, and they gradually became one with the world itself, taking on a more abstract, non‑human form.

Tengen then recounts how Kenjaku’s plans have evolved over time. In the past, Kenjaku tried to kill the Six Eyes, but that failed. After Riko’s death and Tengen’s transformation, Kenjaku changed tactics and instead sealed Satoru Gojo in the Prison Realm, removing a major obstacle. Tengen also notes that Toji Fushiguro, who possessed a Heavenly Pact and existed outside fate, disrupted the connections between key figures, which allowed Kenjaku to reshape events to his advantage. With Gojo sealed and fate altered, Kenjaku can now move forward with his current scheme.

Tengen reveals that Kenjaku intends to use the Culling Game as a preparatory step. The game will condition participants so they can later be assimilated with Tengen, turning them into jujutsu sorcerers. Tengen then lays out the basic rules of the Culling Game. Players earn points by ending the lives of other players. Those who do not participate, such as Tsumiki and others like her, have nineteen days before they are forcibly removed from the game, a process that results in their deaths. Players who accumulate one hundred points gain the right to add a new rule to the game, as long as it does not hinder the game’s continuation. The group also learns that the Game Master is an automated system within the barrier and is not Kenjaku himself.

Yuji expresses concern about having to kill other players to earn points. Megumi suggests there may be an alternative way to approach the game, but the exact method is not yet clear. The group then divides their responsibilities. Yuki and Choso agree to stay behind and guard Tengen, since Tengen’s current state makes them vulnerable to being targeted by Kenjaku, who can absorb cursed spirits. Maki decides to return to the Zen’in estate to secure cursed tools and search for Panda, who has gone missing.

The others prepare to enter the Culling Game. Yuta will initially operate alone to gather intelligence and assess the situation. Yuji and Megumi will work together as a pair. Tengen also gives Yuki and Choso the “back” of the Prison Realm, a small cube‑like object that is part of the plan to free Gojo. Tengen explains that the key to opening this back door lies somewhere within the Culling Game, and the group must find a mysterious player known as the Angel who can unlock it. With their roles assigned and the stakes clarified, the group prepares to move out and begin their separate missions.
