Lioness Episode 17: The Spider and the Fly

Joe’s morning starts with a brief look at normal family life, but while she is driving to work and talking on the phone, her car is struck and she is abducted in broad daylight by armed men. The episode then jumps back six months to show how the mission that led to this happened.

A CIA meeting is held after a Ukrainian double agent working inside Russia offers a major intelligence lead: the location of Aleksi Yurimov, a high-value Russian intelligence target. Joe meets the informant at Georgetown University, where the woman gives the team Yurimov’s name and urges the CIA to move on him. The information sends Joe, the agency leadership, and the broader Lioness team into a new operation centered on finding and capturing him.

The team travels to Ukraine and links up with military personnel there, including Cody Spears and Delta Force operators. They move into combat conditions on the front lines near Donetsk, where the episode shows the harsh reality of the war zone, including trench fighting, drones, and close-quarters movement through contested territory. During the operation, Joe and the team push toward the target area, but the mission becomes complicated by enemy forces and the brutal battlefield environment.

Back in the present timeline, Joe returns home after the mission and tries to settle into a quiet evening with her family. That calm is broken when two men arrive at her door claiming to be state police. Joe immediately realizes they are impostors, and the confrontation turns violent inside her house. She kills both intruders, and her husband is left horrified by what he sees when he wakes up and finds the aftermath.

The episode’s structure makes clear that Joe’s personal and professional worlds have collided: the mission, the abduction, and the attack on her home all feel connected, and the final impression is that someone has brought the fight directly to her front door.
