My Hero Academia Episode 163: Quirk: Explosion!!

Season 8· canon

The fierce battle with Bakugo reminds All For One of his and his brother Yoichi's origins.

Full recap

A large portion of the episode is devoted to **All For One’s origin**, showing how he was born in the earliest days of Quirks, how his mother died giving birth to twins, and how he grew up with an instinctive greed and a dangerous power that let him steal and give Quirks. The episode then returns to the present battlefield, where **Bakugo** reenters the fight and forces All For One into a desperate transformation, ending with Bakugo overwhelming him with explosions.

A woman, visibly exhausted and living in harsh conditions, gives birth to twins by a riverbank in the rain; the larger baby dominates the smaller one in the womb and after birth, while the mother dies and is left behind as floodwater carries the infants away. The episode frames this as happening during the early age of Quirks, when the first cases were being treated like a disease and society was panicking over superpowers spreading worldwide. From childhood, the older twin shows extreme selfishness and survives by taking what he wants, developing the ability to **take Quirks from others and bestow them on chosen people**.

He grows up in a world descending into fear and conflict, and the episode shows that he eventually claims a weak, passive younger brother for himself. His brother later comes to understand how monstrous he has become and runs away, seeking help from another person with an explosion-related Quirk. Enraged by the rejection, All For One murders his brother in a graphic, brutal scene.

Back in the present, the battle resumes with All For One reacting intensely to Bakugo, whose fighting style reminds him of someone from his past. All For One becomes fixated on Bakugo’s resemblance to that earlier opponent and decides to force himself into another transformation to regain power and youth. The transformation becomes grotesque and unstable, with his body warping into a much more monstrous form before collapsing further.

Bakugo returns to the front lines and attacks relentlessly, using rapid explosions to tear through All For One’s new form. All For One answers with a last-ditch offensive, but Bakugo keeps advancing, even catching one of the villain’s attacks in his mouth in a defiant display of grit. The episode ends with Bakugo continuing to press the attack as his explosions drive the battle forward.
