My Hero Academia Episode 167: Izuku Midoriya Rising

Season 8· canon

After All For One takes over Shigaraki's body, the heroes must fight as one big team to defeat him.

Full recap

Deku is brought back into the fight by the people who have managed to reach him, and the episode becomes a full-scale final push as heroes, classmates, and other allies pour through the portals to help him advance toward the enemy.

At the start, Deku is still badly damaged from the battle, but Eri’s horn has restored his arms enough for him to continue fighting. Aizawa helps coordinate the surviving fighters, and the last available heroes and students begin arriving at Deku’s location through Kurogiri’s portals. Among those who come through are many from Class 1-A and Class 1-B, plus other Pro Heroes who are still able to keep going. Endeavor and Shoto also arrive despite everything they have already endured in the separate battle they were fighting.

Deku tells Aizawa that One For All is gone, but that he still has an ember of it left. Aizawa gives him the money that had been donated by evacuees, and the moment underscores that people all over are still supporting the heroes’ stand. Aoyama takes Deku’s hand and helps pull him forward, and the other heroes and students rally around him so he can run back into the battle.

On the enemy side, the villain facing Deku continues changing and becomes more monstrous, stretching out with large tentacle-like limbs. He attacks with overwhelming force, including a massive energy blast, but the gathered heroes work together to shield Deku long enough for him to keep moving. As Deku pushes ahead, he does not treat the enemy as some terrifying symbol; instead, he sees him as a lonely man consumed by hatred and loss.

Kurogiri briefly hesitates, saying he must protect Shigaraki, but before he can act, Bakugo bursts through him with an explosive attack that causes Kurogiri to disappear. That clears the way for Deku to land his finishing blow. Deku launches one final smash with the power still left to him, and the strike lands decisively, ending the battle in the physical world.

The episode then shifts into the confrontation’s deeper, almost dreamlike inner space, where Deku encounters the consciousness tied to the enemy’s body. In that final exchange, the enemy’s remaining awareness asks Deku to tell Spinner that “Tomura Shigaraki fought to destroy until the very end,” and Deku agrees.
