Season 2· canon

Izuku learns more about Todoroki's past as the first-years head into the final round of the sports festival.

Full recap

Shoto brings Izuku to the Student and Faculty Entrance, and Izuku suggests they get lunch. Shoto ignores him, then states that the power Izuku used during the Cavalry Battle was the same as All Might's. Shoto then asks Izuku if he is All Might's "secret love child." Izuku tries to deny it, but Shoto concludes there is a secret connection between them. Shoto reveals he is the son of the Number 2 Hero, Endeavor, and says this gives him more reason to defeat Izuku.

Meanwhile, All Might approaches Endeavor on a set of stairs. All Might compliments Endeavor's son and asks for advice on training future heroes. Endeavor refuses, stating only that Shoto will one day surpass All Might.

Shoto explains to Izuku that Endeavor is obsessed with defeating All Might. Shoto says Endeavor used his money to arrange a marriage with the intent of creating a powerful child, which resulted in Shoto's birth. He reveals that Endeavor created him solely to surpass All Might, and his memories of his mother are of her crying. Shoto also recounts that his mother called his left side unbearable before pouring boiling water on his face, which horrifies Izuku. Shoto tells Izuku he picked a fight with him to show his father he can win the festival without using his fire ability.

Shoto leaves, but Izuku stops him to declare that despite Shoto's motivations, Izuku will still do his best to defeat him. Katsuki secretly overhears their conversation.

After lunch, Present Mic announces recreational side games before the finals. He and Shota notice that girls from Class 1-A, including Momo, are dressed as cheerleaders, having been tricked by Denki and Minoru. Before the games begin, Midnight instructs students to draw lots for the final round: a one-on-one fighting competition. Eijiro and Hanta explain to Mina that the final round of the festival varies each year but is always a one-on-one competition.

Mashirao withdraws from the competition before the lots are drawn, shocking his classmates. He explains that he was used as a puppet by Hitoshi during the Cavalry Battle and his pride won't allow him to continue without knowing how he got there. A student from Class 1-B also requests to resign, feeling he doesn't deserve to participate. Midnight allows their withdrawals and decides the open spots will be filled by members of the fifth-place team, Team Kendo. However, Itsuka Kendo gives the opportunity to Team Tetsutetsu, stating they fought harder. With all participants set, Midnight discloses the match-ups for the first bracket: Izuku vs. Hitoshi, Shoto vs. Hanta, Ibara vs. Denki, Tenya vs. Mei, Mina vs. Yuga, Fumikage vs. Momo, Eijiro vs. Tetsutetsu, and Katsuki vs. Ochaco.

Izuku considers his matchup, and his opponent tries to speak to him. Izuku recognizes him from his challenge to Class 1-A, but Mashirao prevents him from talking to Hitoshi. Shoto hopes Izuku advances so he can defeat him. Katsuki doesn't recognize Ochaco's name, and Mei pitches something to Tenya.

The recreational games begin, and many qualifiers use the time to prepare. After Cementoss builds the fighting arena, the finals commence. Izuku prepares to take the stage, but All Might finds him. They discuss "One For All." Izuku believes he reached the finals only through others' support and luck, but All Might encourages him.

Inspired, Izuku takes the stage to battle Hitoshi. Hitoshi taunts Izuku about Mashirao, prompting Izuku to speak, which activates Hitoshi's Quirk. The crowd watches as Izuku stands immobile in the ring.
