My Hero Academia Episode 21: Battle On, Challengers!
It's one match after another in the first round of the finals tournament. Who will advance to the second round?
Full recap
After the ice from the previous match is cleared, the third match of the tournament begins between Ibara Shiozaki from Class 1-B and Denki Kaminari. The announcer introduces Ibara as an "assassin," which she corrects, stating her humble quest is to spread good and that she would never kill an opponent. Denki, finding Ibara cute, asks her out on a date, promising to console her after her defeat. He then initiates his Indiscriminate Shock technique, but Ibara blocks it with her Vines Quirk and simultaneously ensnares him. With Denki immobilized and short-circuited, Ibara is declared the winner.
A student from Class 1-B taunts Class 1-A, but another student from Class 1-B stops him and apologizes. The crowd is impressed with Ibara's performance. A pro hero comments on Ibara's potential as a sidekick, but another pro hero tells her to get back to work. Izuku takes notes on Ibara, muttering to himself, which annoys Katsuki and other classmates. Ochaco tells Izuku to relax, and he then shares his notes on her Zero Gravity Quirk.
The fourth match is set to begin, but Tenya appears wearing support gear. The referee scolds him, but Tenya explains that a student named Mei offered him the equipment to ensure a fair match. Impressed by his sportsmanship, the referee allows him to wear the gear, and the match begins. Mei uses the match to advertise her support items, rather than fighting. After ten minutes, Mei leaves the ring and apologizes for tricking Tenya, who is upset that she turned their match into a commercial. As Izuku takes notes on Mei, Ochaco silently leaves the stands.
The fifth contest features Mina Ashido and Yuga Aoyama. A classmate roots for Mina, while another classmate makes an inappropriate comment about Yuga. Izuku believes Mina is at a disadvantage due to Yuga's ranged Quirk, but Mina reveals she knows his weakness from a previous team exercise. Yuga fires his beam rapidly, but Mina uses her acid Quirk to slide across the ring and evade his lasers. Yuga then gets a stomach ache after a large beam, and Mina uses this opening to melt his belt and uppercut him, knocking him unconscious and advancing to the next round.
The sixth contest immediately follows, with Fumikage Tokoyami facing Momo Yaoyorozu. Momo nervously contemplates her strategy, but the fight begins abruptly. Fumikage uses his Dark Shadow to barrage her with strikes. She creates a simple shield to block, but Fumikage focuses his attacks on the shield, pushing her out of bounds and ending the match quickly. Momo is disappointed, feeling she didn't get to show her skills. Izuku comments on Fumikage's power, and a classmate expresses sympathy for Momo.
As the seventh match between Eijiro Kirishima and Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu begins, Tenya encounters Ochaco in the waiting room. Izuku joins them as Eijiro's fight continues, with both contestants trading blows using their similar Quirks. Ochaco and the others discuss her upcoming match against Katsuki. Izuku points out that Katsuki will use his full power and offers Ochaco a strategy to defeat him. However, Ochaco refuses, admitting she feels embarrassed for relying on Izuku previously and declares she will try to defeat Katsuki on her own.
After repeatedly striking each other, Eijiro and Tetsutetsu both knock each other out. The referee declares the match a draw, stating the winner will be decided by an arm wrestling contest after the next match. Both contestants are taken away on stretchers. The final fight of the first bracket then begins: Ochaco Uraraka versus Katsuki Bakugo.
