My Hero Academia Episode 54: Shiketsu High Lurking

Season 3· mixed

The provisional licensing exam has begun, and everyone's after Class 1-A! Can they last long enough to pass this first test?

Full recap

A teacher named Ms. Joke discusses the hero license exam with Shota, explaining that it tests teamwork and information gathering, not just who attacks first.

Students from Ketsubutsu Academy, Shikkui and Itejiro, launch an attack on Class 1-A. Shikkui hardens balls with his Quirk, and Itejiro sends them underground using his Boomerang Quirk. Kyoka uses her Heartbeat Distortion technique with Amplifier Jacks to break up the ground, revealing the incoming balls. Minoru is targeted, but Mina uses her Acid Veil to create a defensive wall that melts the projectiles.

Ms. Joke is impressed by the students' Super Moves. Fumikage uses Black Abyss, and Izuku notes the name change. Fumikage then uses Piercing Twilight Claws to attack Tatami, who evades with her Telescopic Quirk. Yo admits Class 1-A has improved since the U.A. Sports Festival.

The announcer, Yokumiru Mera, states that no one has passed the exam yet. Izuku believes this is due to a stalemate as everyone assesses their rivals. Ms. Joke warns Shota about being condescending towards his students. Yo uses his Super Move, Tremoring Earth, to break the ground beneath Class 1-A.

Other students, including Shoto, notice the tremors. Inasa appears in the city-replica area and uses his Whirlwind Quirk to collect the balls from surrounding students, stating he is inspired by their battles. He then rains the collected balls down on them. Yokumiru announces that Inasa is the first to pass, having eliminated 120 competitors alone.

Izuku escapes the debris from Yo's attack and realizes Class 1-A has been split up by Ketsubutsu. He worries about being alone but then feels excited about facing stronger students. Camie from Shiketsu suddenly tags one of his weak points with a ball. Ochaco has also been separated from her classmates.

Camie talks to Izuku, who suspects she is trying to distract him until her backup arrives. She throws two balls, which Izuku evades. When Izuku tries to counterattack, Camie disappears and then reappears behind him, attempting to tag him again. He dodges, and she disappears once more. Camie then gets behind Izuku and pins him down, revealing that her disappearing act is a skill, not a Quirk. She asks about his motives before he breaks free.

Itejiro and other Ketsubutsu students arrive to ambush Izuku and Camie. Izuku dodges their attacks, and then Ochaco appears. The students try to attack her, and Izuku rushes to her aid, reflecting on his past inability to rescue someone. He catches Ochaco, admitting to himself he should have been stronger sooner. The other students see an opening, but Izuku uses a powerful kick, enhanced by the Iron Soles on his shoes, to destroy their footing and escape.

The Ketsubutsu students lose track of Izuku, who hides behind rubble with Ochaco. Ochaco tries to tag one of his weak points, but Izuku slaps her ball away. He reveals he knows she is likely from Shiketsu because the real Ochaco would have used her Quirk to save herself earlier. Camie then reveals herself and attacks Izuku while unclothed. Hanta and the real Ochaco arrive, forcing Camie to retreat after she tells Ochaco how much Izuku trusts her. Hanta wants to pursue her, but Izuku points out that her targets are not visible because she is naked.

Izuku confirms the identities of Hanta and Ochaco, explaining that Camie had the ability to appear as Ochaco. They hide behind large rocks to discuss strategy. Hanta and Ochaco say they regrouped after seeing a fight. Izuku tells them they need to move quickly because thirty people have already passed the exam.

Shoto hides alone in a steel labyrinth. He hears the announcer state that over fifty students have passed, prompting him to act. A group of students from Seijin High School, dressed in ninja garb, immediately target Shoto. He blocks their projectiles with a wall of ice and then freezes them in place.

A student in red throws a bolt at Shoto and uses his Quirk to greatly increase its size. Shoto blocks with a shield, but the ninja breaks through it with more weapons. Shoto tries to melt another projectile but is forced to dodge. The ninja reveals the weapons are made of tungsten, a material resistant to high temperatures. The ninjas free themselves and tell Shoto he is overconfident for acting alone.
