Rick and Morty Episode 44: A Rickconvenient Mort

Morty is struck by acid rain while shopping for custom shirts, and the cause turns out to be a cartoonish villain named Diesel Weasel. An environmental superhero named Planetina defeats him, and Morty is immediately taken with her after she notices him recycling an aluminum can. He asks her out, and she agrees, leaving Rick surprised.

Back at home, Beth worries about Morty dating someone who looks older than him, while Summer, upset over her own breakup, complains about Morty’s luck with relationships. Rick invites Summer on a reckless bar crawl across three different planets that are each about to be destroyed, and she goes along despite Jerry’s objections.

Morty keeps abandoning responsibilities to look for Planetina, including ignoring his family’s concerns when he hears about a wildfire. He eventually finds her again and learns she is controlled by four adults who use elemental rings to summon and direct her. Morty helps free her from them, but once she is no longer restrained, he sees that her idea of saving the environment includes violent, extreme methods he cannot accept.

Morty is horrified by what Planetina is willing to do, and their relationship falls apart. Enraged, he tells her he loves her, but the episode ends with the two separating after the disastrous fallout of their romance.

Meanwhile, Rick and Summer spend the episode hopping from one doomed planet to another, partying through disasters and indulging in reckless excess. On the first planet, Rick becomes attached to a woman there and tries to keep her with him longer than he should, but the overall trip is still framed as a chaotic, self-destructive escape from their problems.
