Silo Episode 10: Outside

Juliette first tries to use the hard drive footage to expose the truth of the outside world to the rest of the Silo, then is hunted down, captured, and forced to choose between submission and punishment. By the end of the episode, she goes outside to clean and discovers that what the people of the Silo see on their suit displays does not match reality.

Juliette, Danny, and Patrick pick up right after the earlier discovery of the hard drive video, which shows the outside as green, bright, and full of life. Juliette immediately wants that footage shown on every screen in the Silo so everyone can see it for themselves, and Danny explains that the Silo’s screens are controlled by IT but can be reached through signal boosters located every 30 levels.

The three of them race to spread the video before IT can stop them. They escape through the Silo’s trash chute and travel downward to reach a level with the necessary boosters, where they connect the hard drive and begin broadcasting the video. The footage starts appearing across the Silo’s systems, startling the people monitoring the screens.

IT and the authorities quickly move to stop them, so Juliette continues fleeing through the Silo’s lower levels. As the pursuit closes in, she reaches Mechanical and speaks with Walk, her ally there, before the situation collapses around her and she is taken into custody.

Bernard then confronts Juliette and offers her a deal: if she agrees to go out and clean, he will tell her what happened to George and protect Mechanical from retaliation. He shows her a recording of George’s death, which appears to be a suicide. After that, Juliette is sent out to clean, with the Silo watching.

Once outside, Juliette’s helmet display shows the same beautiful, green world from the earlier footage, but her actual view is different. She realizes the display is false when she notices the world around her is barren, and she keeps moving away from the Silo instead of cleaning the camera. After climbing to higher ground, she sees that the landscape is desolate and that there are many other similar structures nearby, with a ruined city visible in the distance.
