Silo Episode 8: Hanna
New information causes Juliette to see her family's past differently—and she finally gains access to the silo's biggest secrets.
Full recap
Juliette’s search for the truth about the hard drive leads her into a deeper investigation of her mother Hanna, and the episode splits between that childhood memory and the present-day pressure from Judicial. The central reveal is that Juliette’s understanding of her mother’s death changes once she learns how Judicial found out about Hanna’s illegal work.
As a child, Juliette follows Hanna out to a remote field to meet an illegal trader and bring home a sick rabbit. Hanna is experimenting with a homemade magnifying device that lets her examine the rabbit’s heart, which has a defect, and she hopes the device could help people with similar problems. The scene establishes Hanna as inventive, secretive, and willing to break rules to help others.
In the present, Juliette is still being hunted because of the hard drive, and Robert Sims is leading the search for her. Judicial searches the sheriff’s office, but Juliette uses her authority and the rules of the Pact against him, temporarily putting Sims in a cell. While he is contained, she searches his office and finds files connected to Hanna and other people in her life, confirming that Judicial had been watching her family.
Those files change Juliette’s assumptions about her mother’s death. She learns that Judicial discovered Hanna’s device through the silo’s surveillance cameras, not necessarily because her father reported her. That discovery forces Juliette to rethink the blame she had placed on him and the meaning she attached to Hanna’s suicide.
Juliette then tries to open the hard drive, hoping it will explain George Wilkins’s death and the larger secrets she has been chasing, but she cannot get into it. She asks Lukas Kyle for help, but he refuses because he does not want to risk his mother’s safety by getting involved in something illegal.
With Judicial still closing in, Juliette is forced to keep moving. An officer stops her, but Bernard intervenes and gets her out of immediate danger. He appears helpful in the moment, and Juliette tells him that Sims is planning a takeover of the silo.
The episode also returns to Hanna’s past after the authorities discover her illegal work. Judicial arrives and destroys her device, making clear that her efforts were being monitored and that her secrecy had already been compromised. The destruction of the magnifier and the pressure around it help explain the despair surrounding Hanna’s later death.
The episode ends with Juliette still trapped between the hard drive mystery and the widening threat from Judicial, with the new information about Hanna reshaping how she sees her family and the silo itself.
