Spartacus Episode 31: Separate Paths

Spartacus and the rebel band reach a crossroads and begin to split over what to do next. Spartacus wants to protect the many noncombatants traveling with them and chooses to lead those who cannot or will not fight toward safety beyond the Alps, while Crixus insists on taking fighters and pushing the war directly toward Rome.

After the rebels seize a small village stocked with food, drink, and shelter, the camp gets a brief respite from the constant retreat ahead of Crassus’s pursuing army. The decision to separate becomes final, with some rebels choosing to follow Crixus and others, especially civilians and the wounded, staying with Spartacus.

The episode also follows tensions in the Roman camp, where Crassus continues pressing his men forward and the rivalry between Tiberius and Caesar grows sharper. Their conflict escalates into brutality when Tiberius has Caesar held down and assaults him.

Among the rebels, several smaller personal moments unfold as the larger split takes shape. Spartacus learns that Kore has a connection to Crassus and grows suspicious of her, while Laeta helps calm him. Gannicus and Sibyl share a flirtation, and Spartacus and Laeta grow closer as the episode progresses.

By the end of the episode, Crixus leads his chosen force away on the path toward Rome, while Spartacus takes the other group on a separate route toward the Alps.
