Spartacus Episode 33: Victory

Season 3· aired 2013-04-12

Spartacus and his outnumbered rebels make one last attempt to win freedom in an epic final battle against the Romans.

Full recap

Discipline and morale are collapsing among the rebels, so Spartacus decides to face Crassus in a final battle rather than keep retreating. Before the fighting begins, he meets Crassus privately, and the two agree to settle things by fighting each other to the death on the battlefield; during this meeting, Spartacus also tells Crassus that Kore killed Tiberius.

Back with his followers, Spartacus gives them a final speech and prepares them for the coming battle. Agron, despite the severe injuries he has suffered, makes a sword that will let him fight again.

The battle opens with the rebels landing several early kills, but the Romans quickly retaliate. Lugo is killed by a flaming projectile, Castus is mortally wounded by a Roman rider and dies in Nasir and Agron’s arms, and Saxa is fatally struck down after killing several Romans of her own.

Amid the chaos, Naevia fights Caesar, but Caesar slits her throat and then stabs her. Caesar then faces Gannicus, who wounds him before being surrounded and overwhelmed by Roman soldiers.

Spartacus finally reaches Crassus, and the two engage in a brutal one-on-one fight. Spartacus manages to defeat Crassus after both men exchange heavy blows, but he is then attacked from behind by three Roman soldiers, who impale him with spears.

Agron reaches Spartacus and carries him away from the battlefield. Meanwhile, Pompey arrives and takes credit for defeating Spartacus’s forces even though he did not truly win the battle himself.

Afterward, Gannicus is crucified, and Crassus orders Kore crucified beside him because of her connection to the rebels. Spartacus dies in Agron’s arms and is buried beneath a red serpent shield.
