Ted Lasso Episode 15: Rainbow
Nate learns how to be assertive from Keeley and Rebecca. Ted asks Roy for a favor.
Full recap
AFC Richmond is in a slump, Nate is struggling to stand up for himself, and Ted pulls Roy Kent back toward football by asking him to help a rattled Isaac regain his confidence. By the end of the episode, Roy returns to Richmond as a coach after realizing he misses being part of the team.
Nate starts the episode trying to reserve a window table at his parents’ favorite restaurant for their anniversary, but the hostess tells him the table cannot be reserved and offers him one in the back instead. He tries to use his connection to Roy to get the table anyway, but that does not work. Later, Keeley and Rebecca encourage Nate to be more assertive and to ask for what he wants directly.
At Richmond, the team’s poor form leads to frustration, and captain Isaac is singled out for not leading well enough. Ted, unsure how to solve the problem, asks Roy for help. Roy initially resists the idea of returning to the club, but he agrees to help with Isaac.
Roy takes Ted and Isaac to a local pitch near where he grew up and tells Isaac to join a pickup game there. Isaac is irritated at first, but Roy explains that football is supposed to be fun and that Isaac is thinking too much and putting too much pressure on himself. Once Isaac relaxes and starts enjoying himself, his play improves and his confidence returns.
Meanwhile, Rebecca keeps using Bantr, the club’s new dating app sponsor, and makes a promising connection online. This is played alongside Keeley’s work promoting the app.
Nate returns to the restaurant with his parents and is again sent toward the back table. After speaking to himself in the restroom mirror and working up his nerve, he confronts the hostess and firmly says he wants the window table. She gives it to him, though she refuses his request for her number.
After helping Isaac, Ted again asks Roy to join Richmond’s coaching staff, but Roy still says no at first. The next day, while Roy is working as a pundit on *Soccer Saturday*, he complains that commentators judge players without really knowing them or helping them improve. Seeing Richmond and recognizing how much he misses being involved, Roy gets up and leaves the broadcast mid-show. He rushes to the stadium and joins Ted, Beard, and Nate on the sidelines, finally accepting Ted’s offer to coach. Nate appears unhappy when Roy arrives.
