Attack on Titan Episode 5: First Battle: Battle of Trost (1)

The Colossal Titan returns and breaches Wall Rose by destroying the gate and cannons. Eren realizes the creature is intelligent when it deliberately targets the defensive structures rather than attacking randomly.

Eren pursues the Colossal Titan using his omni-directional mobility gear, attempting to strike at its weak point—the nape of the neck. The Titan creates a smokescreen and vanishes completely, causing Eren's attack to miss. The Colossal Titan Response squad arrives and orders Eren and Connie to fall back and report the encounter.

Before departing, Mikasa finds Eren and tells him to locate her if the situation deteriorates, even if they're separated by squad assignments. She reminds him not to die before being called away by her unit leader.

With Titans now inside the city, the cadets are deployed to assist the front guards. Eren's squad of six moves into the vanguard, but they immediately discover the entire frontline has been routed—the city is swarming with regular Titans. An Abnormal Titan suddenly appears and snatches their squadmate Thomas, devouring him before the group can react.

Enraged by Thomas's death, Eren speeds ahead alone while his teammates struggle to keep up. Another Titan appears and bites off Eren's leg. Two more squadmates are caught and devoured in quick succession. Armin, overwhelmed by the horror of watching his friends eaten, becomes paralyzed with shock. A bearded Titan picks up the immobilized Armin and eats him.
