Death Note Episode 26: Renewal

The episode begins with L narrating a recap of the Kira case from the first 25 episodes. This recap reveals that L has been killed, and the Investigation Team must now decide how to proceed without their leader.

Following L's death, the Investigation Team—Aizawa, Matsuda, Mogi, and Soichiro—agrees that **Light should become the new L**. Light accepts the position but insists he will be more cautious than L was. He requests to work from his own one-bedroom apartment rather than continue at their current headquarters, and Matsuda suggests using the apartment as their new base of operations.

To maintain the appearance that L is still alive, Light proposes using software to recreate the voices of both L and Watari so the police will continue cooperating with the Investigation Team. The team faces one remaining problem: what to do with the Death Note. They decide that one member must hide it without telling anyone its location, and Soichiro takes on this responsibility, though Light remains its true owner.

The Investigation Team expresses optimism about capturing Kira under Light's leadership, and Matsuda suggests throwing an inauguration party for Light.

Light meets Misa at a café and tells her about his new apartment. He asks her to live with him, and she joyfully agrees.

Later that evening, Light stands on a rooftop with Ryuk. Ryuk expresses that with L dead, there will be nothing interesting left to see, but Light disagrees. Light declares that he will now create his new world and begins judging criminals again, using the Death Note to kill Aiber, Wedy, and the remaining six members of the Yotsuba Group leadership.

The episode concludes with a man at an orphanage in England confirming the deaths of Watari and L to two young orphans who are watching.
