Death Note Episode 32: Selection

The episode opens with a flashback to Teru Mikami's childhood, where as a young boy he vigilantly protects weaker classmates from bullies at school, viewing the world in strict terms of good and evil. His sense of justice intensifies after facing rejection from victims and witnesses who side against him, and a tragic incident claims the lives of the bullies and his mother in a car accident, reinforcing his belief that eliminating evil brings peace.

In the present, criminals worldwide suffer heart attacks, which adult Mikami—a prosecutor—interprets as divine judgment by a god-like figure he calls Kira. Obsessed, Mikami appears frequently on the TV show *Kira's Kingdom* to praise Kira, drawing the attention of Light Yagami, who secretly delivers him a Death Note. Ecstatic, Mikami uses it to kill criminals independently, including the show's host and staff, solidifying his role as Kira's proxy.

Light, under surveillance by the SPK investigation team, arranges a private meeting with Kiyomi Takada, a news anchor and his former university acquaintance who supports Kira, by claiming Misa Amane lacks the intelligence he desires. At the hotel, Takada receives a call from Mikami, whom Light contacts using coded language referencing the Death Note package to confirm his identity as "God" without alerting the wiretaps. Light bluffs that Kira demands all bugs be removed from the room, forcing the team—including a suspicious Aizawa—to comply.

With surveillance off, Light reveals to Takada that he is Kira and that Mikami wields the current killing power. He asks her to become his goddess in the new world, and an overwhelmed Takada embraces him.
