Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Episode 20: Pretend Family
When Rui assaults him with his Blood Demon Art, Tanjiro braces himself for certain death. As his life flashes before his eyes, he suddenly remembers his father's dance, the kagura, and unleashes a new, non-Water Breathing attack. Hinokami Kagura Dance. Knowing that he’ll be receiving a simultaneous blow from the demon, he uses his new move to slice off Rui’s head. As Tanjiro crawls towards Nezuko, who lies on the ground, riddled with wounds, someone appears before him.

Tanjiro lies immobilized after using his latest technique against Rui, the spider demon who leads a twisted "pretend family," bracing for death as Rui unleashes his Blood Demon Art threads. Giyu Tomioka arrives, congratulating Tanjiro for surviving so long, and counters Rui's attack with **Water Breathing, Eleventh Form: Dead Calm**, a technique that nullifies the threads before effortlessly decapitating Rui.
Meanwhile, the Daughter demon flees through the woods, muttering about messing up her role in Rui's family for the first time. In a flashback, she recalls being chased by Demon Slayers as a weak demon until Rui saved her, forcing her to join his "family" by consuming his blood to gain her white skin and spider abilities; she agreed out of desperation.
She encounters Demon Slayer Murata and traps him in a cocoon that fills with acidic fluid to liquify him. Shinobu Kocho intervenes, offering "friendship" in exchange for answers. The Daughter lies about killing only five people, but Shinobu deduces it's at least eighty and proposes torturing her once per victim to atone.
The Daughter refuses, prompting Shinobu to reveal her physical weakness prevents decapitation but her **Insect Breathing** and wisteria-based poison can kill demons; she swiftly poisons and finishes the Daughter.
Earlier, Tanjiro and Inosuke fought deeper into the mountain through a horde of puppet-controlled Demon Slayers, avoiding severe injuries. The episode winds down the arc with the senior Slayers cleaning up, as Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu recover from their injuries.
