Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Episode 28: Deep Sleep

Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Nezuko board the Mugen Train and meet Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, who is already on the train investigating a disturbance. The group is immediately struck by his intense energy, while the train itself is shown to be packed with passengers and already carrying an ominous atmosphere.

As the train begins moving, the four Demon Slayers are suddenly affected by Enmu’s blood demon art and fall into a deep sleep. In their dreams, each of them is pulled into a comforting illusion, but the episode makes clear that these are traps meant to keep them unconscious.

Tanjiro’s dream draws him back to his family home, where he experiences a peaceful reunion with his deceased relatives. Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Rengoku are also shown drifting through their own dream states, each immersed in a personal fantasy or memory while they remain helpless on the train. Meanwhile, the sleepers are targeted by intruders who enter their dreams with the intent to destroy their spiritual cores.

Nezuko does not fall asleep and acts to protect the others by severing the intruders’ connection to their dreams with her blood demon art. Free from the dream attack, Tanjiro realizes he is not in the real world and resists the illusion by rejecting the false comfort of his dream family. He wakes himself by recognizing that the dream is a trap and returning to consciousness.

Once awake, Tanjiro fights back against the attackers in the train car, while Nezuko continues waking the others. Tanjiro then confronts the source of the assault, only for the episode to end with the threat still unresolved and the battle on the Mugen Train far from over.
