Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Episode 29: Should Have Been
Trapped in Enmu's spell, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke and Kyojuro fall closer and deeper into an eternal slumber. Faced with death, Tanjiro is forced to confront his demons to save them.
Full recap
Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Nezuko board the Mugen Train with Kyojuro Rengoku after hearing rumors that demons may be on it, but almost immediately they fall asleep. The episode then centers on their dreams and the danger hidden inside them: Enmu has entered their unconscious minds and intends to destroy their spiritual cores while they sleep.
Tanjiro’s dream is the most emotionally important part of the episode. He finds himself reunited with his lost family and spends time with them in a peaceful, happy version of home life. At first, everything feels real and comforting, but the dream’s artificial nature is gradually revealed as a trap created by Enmu.
The episode’s tension comes from the contrast between that warmth and the threat to the sleeping travelers. Enmu’s plan is to keep them trapped in these dream worlds long enough to damage their spiritual cores beyond recovery. The story leaves the group still asleep and in danger, with the question of whether they can awaken before Enmu succeeds.
