Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Episode 51: Awful Villain
Genya aims for the neck of the fifth demon, but the sword breaks due to the unexpected hardness of the neck, and the gun doesn't work either, and he is cornered. He entrusts Tanjiro with the task of confronting the fifth demon, which is believed to be Hantengu's real self, as he cannot cut his neck with his own strength. Receiving Genya's feelings, Tanjiro swings his sword at the fleeing demon.
Full recap
Tanjiro is on the verge of beheading the tiny, fleeing demon when a new, far stronger demon suddenly appears and interrupts him. The episode then turns into a brutal battle as Tanjiro and Nezuko are attacked by enormous wooden dragons, while elsewhere Muichiro fights to survive being trapped underwater inside Gyokko’s pot.
Tanjiro chases the small demon into a clearing and drives his flaming sword into its neck, only for the strike to be interrupted by the sudden arrival of the new demon, Zohakuten, whose appearance and power make it clear that the situation has escalated far beyond the original target. Zohakuten angrily denounces Tanjiro and the others as “awful villains” for trying to kill the cowering demon, framing the slayers as the cruel ones and forcing Tanjiro to shift his focus from a pursuit to direct combat.
Zohakuten attacks with overwhelming force, using a drum-like weapon to unleash a shockwave that blasts Tanjiro backward. From the center of the attack, five massive wooden dragons burst out and carry Tanjiro into the air, where he struggles to keep his balance while the dragons snap at him and try to crush him. He dodges across their necks and nearly falls into one of their jaws before Nezuko catches him at the last moment, even getting bitten in the process; she then quickly regrows the arm and leg she loses during the struggle.
After they land, Zohakuten continues to scold them as brutal tormentors of the weak, while Tanjiro refuses to accept that accusation. Tanjiro responds with fury and determination, insisting that the demons carry the stench of countless victims and that helping others does not require justification, which clearly strikes a nerve and leads to another assault from the dragons.
The episode also cuts to Muichiro’s desperate situation inside Gyokko’s water prison. Muichiro is trapped, short on air, and fading, while the young swordsmith Kotetsu refuses to abandon him and keeps trying to help despite the danger. Kotetsu manages to create enough of a breakthrough for Muichiro to breathe again, and Muichiro is pushed past his limit into a burst of renewed strength that lets him break free and continue fighting.
