Dexter Episode 13: It's Alive!

Dexter is under constant watch by Sgt. James Doakes, which leaves him frustrated and unable to follow his usual routine. Five weeks after the previous season’s finale, Debra returns to work after her traumatic ordeal, while Rita still refuses to believe Dexter had anything to do with Paul’s imprisonment despite the evidence around her.

Trying to seem normal, Dexter fills his time with mundane activities, including bowling, but even that becomes a source of embarrassment when his anxiety throws him off his game. When Doakes finally eases up and leaves him alone for a night, Dexter goes out to hunt a target he has been tracking: a blind voodoo priest named Jimmy Sensio, who has been poisoning people. Dexter prepares to kill him, but once the man is on the table, Dexter becomes unsettled and cannot go through with it, so he lets him go.

The episode emphasizes Dexter’s growing inner conflict: he is distressed by the recent loss of his brother, and his inability to kill makes him feel off-balance and increasingly desperate.
