Dexter Episode 21: Resistance Is Futile

Dexter apologizes to Rita for his affair with Lila, then tries to return to his routine while secretly worrying about disposing of Santos Jimenez’s body. He discovers he is being followed by an FBI car, and the pressure around him escalates when agents search his office and the blood-slide evidence goes missing.

Meanwhile, Doakes goes to Port-au-Prince and asks a contact named Leones to analyze Dexter’s blood slides, but he does not have them with him. Dexter, meanwhile, assumes Lundy has the slides and is summoned to the station, where Lundy and Matthews tell him that they now suspect Doakes of being the Bay Harbor Butcher because of Doakes’s erratic behavior and the evidence found in his car. Dexter quickly goes along with their theory to protect himself, and the FBI assigns guards to keep watch over him while also pulling him into the blood-slide investigation, which lets him cover his fingerprints at the station.

With the FBI watching him, Dexter later slips out of his apartment at night, uses his boat to go back to the cabin, and chops up Jimenez’s body. As he leaves with the trash bags, Doakes ambushes him at gunpoint, having tracked him with a GPS device hidden in the boat. Doakes realizes that the bags contain the evidence he has been chasing and forces Dexter to handcuff himself and walk toward him, but the confrontation turns into a fight. During the struggle, Dexter is shot in the leg, the two men fall into the water, and Dexter uses the handcuffs to knock Doakes unconscious.

Dexter then returns to the cabin, where Doakes later wakes up trapped inside a cage. Dexter locks the door behind him, leaving Doakes imprisoned and alone inside the cabin.
