Dexter Episode 26: Finding Freebo

Dexter learns that Rita is pregnant and spends much of the episode processing what fatherhood might mean for him, while Rita makes it clear she is undecided but ultimately chooses to keep the baby without forcing Dexter into the child’s life. At the same time, Miami Metro is investigating a Jane Doe found dead, and Dexter realizes the victim is Teegan, the woman connected to Freebo, which makes him race to find Freebo before the police do.

Miguel Prado pushes to be involved in the Freebo investigation, but is turned away from the official case and instead begins gathering information on his own, including by inviting Dexter and Rita to dinner with him and Sylvia. During that dinner, Miguel reveals that his brother Ramon has gotten hold of Freebo’s mother’s phone, which worries Dexter because it suggests the police may close in on Freebo through another lead. Debra continues her own investigation, juggling pressure from Internal Affairs and her search for useful information through Anton, and she and Angel eventually identify Teegan as the Jane Doe.

After learning that Freebo may still be nearby, Dexter goes to Teegan’s house and discovers that Freebo is hiding there. Dexter takes him into the garage and kills him. Before Dexter can properly dispose of the body, Miguel arrives outside, apparently intending to kill Freebo himself, forcing Dexter to step out and explain that he killed Freebo in self-defense. Miguel is sympathetic, says he could not have done it himself, and the two share a hug before Dexter urges him to leave so he will not be connected to the scene.
