Dexter Episode 28: All in the Family

Dexter and Rita decide to tell Astor and Cody that Rita is pregnant, but the conversation goes badly when Astor immediately asks why they are not married, putting Dexter on the spot. Dexter fumbles his response and later tries to talk it through with Rita, who explains that she only married Paul because she was pregnant and that she would only want to marry again for love.

At Miami Metro, Debra and Quinn investigate the death of Jack Rice, a man killed during a break-in, while his fiancée Fiona Kemp is too shaken to cooperate at first. Debra is frustrated to see Quinn handle Fiona with unusual tact, and the case later points to Fiona herself as the killer, with Quinn having used his behavior as part of a strategy to get a confession.

Angel goes to a motel intending to meet a prostitute, but the woman turns out to be undercover vice detective Barbara Gianna, who stops the encounter because it could compromise an ongoing sting operation. Masuka is disappointed that no one except Dexter shows interest in attending one of his conferences.

Meanwhile, Ramón keeps drinking heavily and becomes increasingly obsessive about finding the person responsible for his brother’s death. Miguel suggests that they could tell Ramón that Freebo is dead, but Dexter thinks that would be a bad idea because Ramón is too volatile to trust with the truth. LaGuerta is also pressured by Ramón to keep pushing the investigation, and she ends up working with Ellen Wolf to help clear Chicky Hines even though Miguel wants the matter dropped.

Dexter decides to handle Ramón himself by setting up a situation that will make Ramón look unstable in front of Miguel. He gives an anonymous tip so Miguel and Ramón will meet him, and when Ramón becomes aggressive, Dexter uses the moment to make him appear dangerous and out of control.

Inspired in part by Fiona’s emotional performance in front of the police, Dexter later returns to Rita and makes a heartfelt marriage proposal. Rita is moved by the sincerity of the speech and accepts.
