Full recap
Dexter is pulled in two directions in this episode: Rita wants him to help with wedding planning, while Camilla asks for help dying peacefully, and Miguel pushes Dexter to choose a murder victim who does not fit Dexter’s rules. During the episode, Dexter also gets involved in a separate Miami Metro case, and Miguel’s frustration with him continues to build.
Rita asks Dexter to make a guest list for their wedding, and Dexter quickly realizes he has very few people in his life to invite. He tries to put together names anyway, which underlines how isolated he is socially.
Dexter visits Camilla, whose cancer has worsened and who has been moved to hospice care. Camilla asks Dexter to help arrange her funeral and also tells him to find the perfect key lime pie before she dies, turning the pie into something like a final shared ritual between them.
Miguel talks to Dexter about his growing anger over the legal system and his dislike of how a current case is being handled. Miguel suggests that Dexter should target Ellen Wolf, but Dexter refuses because she does not fit his code.
Camilla later tells Dexter that she has only a limited time left and does not want to endure the pain of her illness. She asks Dexter to end her life, which leaves him conflicted because she is an innocent person and he has built his life around a strict set of rules for killing.
Miami Metro investigates a new murder, and Masuka recognizes that the method matches the work of Albert Chung, a criminal with a history. The investigation also brings Miguel and Ellen into conflict over the case.
At home, Miguel again urges Dexter to kill Ellen, and when Dexter refuses, Miguel becomes angry and throws him out. This is one of the clearest breaks between them so far.
Meanwhile, Sylvia tells Rita that Miguel may be having an affair, but Dexter reassures them that Miguel is not cheating. LaGuerta also works with Ellen to secure Chung’s rendition, tying the legal and police storylines together.
Later, Miguel and Dexter meet again, and Miguel apologizes for how he acted. Dexter then asks Miguel to be his best man at the wedding, and Miguel accepts, briefly restoring their friendship on the surface.
In the final stretch, Dexter visits Camilla again with a new key lime pie. He has secretly injected it with sodium thiopental so he can euthanize her. As she is dying, Dexter confesses that he killed Brian, and Camilla tells him he was right to do it.
