Full recap
Dexter uses Miguel Prado to test whether Miguel can be trusted with his darker secret, and Miguel proves surprisingly eager to help. Meanwhile, Debra gets pulled deeper into the Skinner investigation, Rita faces a career change, and Camilla asks Dexter for one last perfect key lime pie before she dies.
Dexter spends much of the episode gauging Miguel’s reaction to violence and moral transgression. On Dexter’s boat, Miguel asks how Dexter felt about killing Ethan Turner, and Dexter says it “felt right,” which clearly pleases Miguel. Dexter then tries to push the test further by bringing Miguel a case involving Clemson Galt, a white supremacist who killed a pregnant woman but served only a robbery sentence; Dexter expects Miguel to recoil, but Miguel instead agrees to help and uses his influence to get Galt out of prison. Dexter eventually kills Galt, but he deliberately sends Miguel elsewhere before the murder, because he fears Miguel may not be able to handle witnessing the act firsthand.
Debra continues working the Skinner case and becomes increasingly unsettled by the pattern of killings. After Miami Metro learns that the Skinner has killed Wendell, Debra remembers that she had talked to Wendell and Garza shortly before their deaths and begins to suspect that Ramón may be the Skinner. She shares that suspicion with Angel and Quinn, and the three agree to investigate quietly without telling anyone else. Yuki Amado then pressures Debra to wear a wire and get information from Quinn, threatening to expose Debra’s undercover work if she refuses. Debra follows Ramón and sees him put a man in his trunk, but after they investigate, they conclude he is not the Skinner; even so, they arrest him for kidnapping.
The episode also shows growing tension around Quinn and internal affairs. After Quinn is praised by Debra in front of LaGuerta, Debra tells him that Yuki is investigating him. Quinn shrugs it off and says Yuki is only trying to get back at him. LaGuerta herself is surprised when Ellen Wolf starts investigating Miguel for misconduct and refuses to assist her. LaGuerta also informs Dexter that Camilla Figg is dying of terminal lung cancer, and Dexter visits her, where she says her last wish is to eat the perfect key lime pie.
Rita’s storyline centers on work and uncertainty. She is invited to work in real estate with Sylvia, and she wonders whether this is the right choice for her future. In the same episode, the pressures of the season continue to affect the household, but Rita’s main beat here is her new career opportunity and her hesitation about it.
