Full recap

Dexter wakes the morning after his and Miguel Prado’s first joint kill feeling unusually connected to Miguel, but that sense of camaraderie starts to fray almost immediately as the day’s events expose how much Miguel has been hiding. At Rita’s house, Sylvia visits Dexter because she is worried Miguel never came home the night before and suspects he may be having an affair; Dexter covers for Miguel, only for Sylvia to reveal that Miguel had barely arrived at her house at all. Dexter later hears Miguel’s explanation that he stayed out drinking to celebrate, but he knows Miguel is lying because the bar Miguel names had actually been closed for part of the night.

At Miami Metro, the search for Anton continues, and the team leans into the growing conclusion that the Skinner is behind his disappearance. Debra and Quinn work the case hard, following the physical signs around the area where Anton was taken and narrowing down how the abduction likely happened. Meanwhile, the Skinner is shown holding Anton captive at an unknown location and torturing him for information about Freebo’s whereabouts.

Rita also confronts Miguel after Sylvia’s visit, pressing him about the suspicion of infidelity hanging over his home life. The episode keeps building the tension around Miguel’s behavior, and Dexter’s growing unease becomes more focused when Ellen Wolf goes missing. Dexter visits Ellen’s house, finds blood, and realizes Miguel may have been involved in her disappearance. He goes to a cemetery and discovers the place where Miguel buried her body. When Dexter confronts him, Miguel admits what he did, but insists that he and Dexter simply have different ideas about what they want.

Rather than let Miguel’s murder stay hidden, Dexter stages the discovery of Ellen’s body by arranging for two boys to find it at the cemetery, which brings Miami Metro back to the site to investigate. Miguel is frustrated that the body has been found, while Dexter hopes the exposure will force him to absorb the lesson Dexter thinks he is teaching him. Dexter also continues testing Miguel’s honesty in practical ways, trying to verify whether Miguel has really followed the code and the rules Dexter has been trying to impose on him.

The Anton case escalates when Miguel privately speaks with the Skinner in an attempt to get a confession, insisting that the camera be turned off first. The interrogation fails, and the authorities are forced to release the Skinner. Debra and Quinn then use a staged plumbing emergency involving tree trimmers to get information from Mario, who finally reveals the Skinner’s hideout. They rescue Anton, but the Skinner escapes.

By the end of the episode, Dexter’s suspicion of Miguel becomes unbearable. He retests the shirt Miguel had returned to him and is stunned to learn that the blood on it is not Freebo’s at all but cow blood. Dexter realizes Miguel has been manipulating him from the beginning, and the episode ends with Dexter angry and determined to strike back.
