Dexter Episode 48: The Getaway

Arthur discovers Dexter’s true identity and warns him to stay away, forcing Dexter to put his plan into motion immediately. Dexter tails Arthur, but a minor traffic accident interrupts him and creates a new problem he has to deal with before he can strike.

Debra keeps digging into Harry’s secret past and follows a lead that takes her to a house tied to Brian Moser, which pushes her closer to the truth about Laura Moser and Dexter’s family history.

Meanwhile, the police close in on the Trinity Killer, and Dexter makes several risky moves to catch Arthur before he can disappear. He tracks Arthur to a bank, sees him retrieve a large envelope, then attacks and knocks him out, only to become distracted when the driver from the earlier accident talks to police. Dexter hides the envelope, confronts the driver, and gets himself detained by the police after attacking him.

While Dexter is in custody, Arthur gets away, though Dexter later recovers the envelope of cash. Rita tells Dexter their marriage is strained but still supports him, and the rest of the family tensions continue underneath the larger crisis.

After Dexter is released, he resumes the hunt, captures Arthur, and kills him with a framing hammer. Arthur’s final words make clear that Dexter’s struggle is effectively over, and Dexter is left emotionally changed by what he has done.

When Dexter finally returns home, he finds a message from Rita saying she came back from the airport because she forgot her identification. He then hears Harrison crying in the bathroom and discovers Rita dead in the bathtub, with Harrison sitting in blood on the floor.
