The Homicide Division is buzzing after The Ice Truck Killer's latest victim is found mutilated, while Dexter stalks a murderous human trafficker.

Full recap

Dexter spends much of the episode tracking **Jorge Castillo**, a junkyard owner suspected of smuggling Cuban immigrants and killing the ones who cannot pay, while Debra and Doakes work the first major lead in the Ice Truck Killer case: a victim who is still alive.

The episode opens with the homicide division focused on the aftermath of the Ice Truck Killer’s latest attack, where **Tony Tucci** has survived and is now being questioned in the hospital. Debra tries to get information out of Tucci, and Doakes clearly disapproves of her more gentle approach; when Debra proposes blindfolding him to help him remember the attack, Doakes reluctantly goes along with it. After the blindfolding, Tucci remembers that the killer used **throat lozenges**, which leads the team back to the crime scene, where they find a lozenge wrapper and Masuka lifts a partial fingerprint from it.

Meanwhile, Dexter is pulled into a separate case through Rita, who tells him about her coworker **Yelina** and the disappearance of Yelina’s fiancé, a Cuban immigrant who came into the country illegally. Dexter uses his police access to look into the matter and finds a list of subjects from a previous case, which draws his attention to Castillo. He begins following Castillo and learns enough to conclude that the man is involved in human trafficking and murder.

As Dexter digs deeper, he discovers that the missing fiancé has turned up dead on a beach, confirming that Castillo is killing immigrants who cannot pay for their passage. Dexter then enters Castillo’s salvage yard and eventually lures him into an Airstream trailer, planning to kill him. Before he can do so, Castillo’s wife **Valerie** arrives, and Dexter realizes the couple are working together. He decides to kill both of them inside the trailer. Afterward, he disposes of their bodies in the ocean and frees the Cuban prisoners being held by them, unaware that someone is watching from inside the trunk of a car in the yard.

A smaller thread follows Dexter’s attempts to understand normal relationships and affection. He observes that **Angel** is having marital problems and reflects on how ordinary people can have hidden troubles of their own. In flashbacks, a teenage Dexter remembers Harry teaching him how to fake happiness on a date, reinforcing the contrast between the appearance of normality and what Dexter actually feels.

Throughout the episode, Dexter also keeps noticing how disconnected he feels from Rita, even as she continues to pull him toward more conventional emotional behavior.
