Dexter Episode 58: In the Beginning

Dexter gets Sonya to take Harrison to Astor and Cody’s grandparents’ house outside Miami because he fears Jordan Chase could target him. He also keeps Lumen at his apartment while he goes after Emily Birch, whose blood Jordan wears as a trophy.

With the Barrel Girls case reopened, Miami Metro begins investigating Chase and Harmon’s whereabouts. While searching Harmon’s house, Debra and Quinn find 13 numbered DVDs showing women being raped, and Dexter realizes that Lumen is the victim on DVD #13. To keep both Lumen and himself from being exposed, Dexter steals Lumen’s DVD and replaces it with a damaged one.

The police identify Dan the dentist from the video evidence. Dexter and Lumen go to see Emily, but she insists she does not know Chase or any of the other men. Dexter gives Lumen the DVD of her own rape, and she watches it alone.

Lumen later returns to Emily and gains her trust by showing her a piece of the footage of Lumen’s abuse. Emily then admits that, twenty years earlier, she was abducted and raped by a group of campers led by Chase, who was using the name Eugene Greer at the time. She also identifies the last man in the photo as Alex Tilden and says the group forced her to pose for the picture immediately after the assault. Lumen does not tell Dexter Tilden’s name until he agrees to let her take part in the killing.

Debra and Quinn later go to Tilden’s house after following up on Chase’s tip, but they miss Dexter and Lumen, whose kill room is in the vacant house next door. Lumen kills Tilden without hesitation. That night, after they dispose of the body and return home, Lumen restrains Dexter with his own clothing and they have sex.
