Dexter Episode 63: Smokey and the Bandit

Dexter becomes fixated on a prostitute’s murder after noticing that one of her teeth has been removed, because it reminds him of an unsolved serial-killer case from his youth involving a killer known as the **Tooth Fairy**. He begins investigating on his own and traces the pattern to a grouchy nursing-home resident, **Walter Kenney**, who has connections to Oregon and fits the clues Dexter has been collecting.

Dexter watches Walter closely and tries to get close enough to learn more about him without raising suspicion. Walter’s behavior and missing tooth do not fully confirm anything at first, so Dexter keeps digging and eventually follows him to a storage unit. There, Dexter finds a box full of human teeth, which convinces him that Walter is the Tooth Fairy and has resumed killing.

At the same time, **Debra** struggles with her new job as lieutenant and feels uncomfortable with the pressures and interference that come with the position. Her storyline centers on her uncertainty about whether she made the right choice and how to handle the demands of the role.

Dexter later picks Walter up after Walter says he got off at the wrong bus stop, but Walter turns the tables by pulling a gun on him and revealing that he has figured out Dexter works for Miami Metro. Dexter manages to overpower him, brings him to a prepared kill room, and is moments away from killing him in his usual ritualistic way. Instead, after thinking about his son Harrison and the possibility of what his own life could leave behind, Dexter chooses to smother Walter with a pillow, making it look like he died in his sleep.

Afterward, Dexter takes Walter’s blood slide and returns home, but he accidentally drops his collection box, scattering the slides and mixing them up. This leaves him shaken because he can no longer easily tell which slide belongs to which victim. The episode ends with a strange and disturbing image of **four horses** running through the streets, carrying a gruesome display connected to **Nathan**’s dismembered body.
