Dexter Episode 66: Just Let Go

Dexter learns that Brother Sam has been shot at his auto body shop and rushes to the scene, where Sam is being taken to the hospital in critical condition. As Dexter tries to figure out who did it, he briefly focuses on a gang connection and then narrows his suspicion to one of Sam’s former associates after examining the evidence at the shop.

While Dexter is chasing the case, he is also still following Travis and hoping to reach Professor Gellar, but he is pulled away by Debra’s call about Sam. Elsewhere, Travis struggles with the role he is being pushed into and eventually releases the kidnapped woman near a beach instead of continuing with the planned ritual.

Back at Miami Metro and at home, Debra deals with the fallout from her new responsibilities and her personal life becomes more complicated when Quinn’s behavior threatens to expose their affair during a housewarming party she throws after a therapist’s suggestion. The party turns awkward and chaotic, with Quinn arriving drunk and causing trouble before being embarrassed and leaving.

Dexter traces the shooting to Leo first, but when police intervene during a raid, Leo is killed before Dexter can confront him. After that, Dexter notices that Sam’s dog does not bark at Nick, which makes him realize Nick is probably the real shooter.

Dexter visits Brother Sam in the hospital, where Sam is close to death and asks Dexter not to let anger consume him; he wants Dexter to forgive Nick and “just let it go.” Sam then dies, leaving Dexter torn between Sam’s request and his own need for justice.

Dexter tracks Nick to the beach and confronts him there, making it clear that he knows Nick shot Sam. Nick admits what he did and mocks the idea that he can be punished, which enrages Dexter. Dexter then kills Nick by drowning him in the ocean.

Afterward, Dexter stands over the water as Nick’s body drifts away, and he has a final unsettling vision of his brother Brian applauding him.
