Dexter Episode 78: Do the Wrong Thing

Dexter becomes convinced that **Hannah McKay** is hiding a murder and begins quietly investigating her life, while also trying to keep his suspicions from looking obvious. Harry appears to Dexter as a conscience-like warning, urging caution because Dexter does not yet have solid proof, but Dexter still moves forward and works to cover his tracks at Miami Metro.

At the lab, Dexter removes any trace of Hannah’s DNA from the evidence so he can protect his own investigation, then approaches her and apologizes for accusing her. He tells her that his wife was murdered, and Hannah answers that her husband died of a heart attack, keeping their conversation calm but guarded. Dexter later digs deeper into the background of Hannah’s home and learns about **Beverly Grey**, the previous owner, whose recent death becomes another suspicious link for him.

Meanwhile, **Sal Price**, a true-crime writer investigating the Wayne Randall murders, starts asking Miami Metro for case files and becomes a new source of pressure in the case. Dexter steals Sal’s files and discovers that Sal’s own blood report on Beverly Grey points toward a plant Hannah cultivates as the likely poison that caused the death, strengthening Dexter’s belief that Hannah is responsible for multiple killings.

At the same time, **Quinn** is cornered by **George**, who forces him to tamper with blood evidence so **Isaak** can be exonerated. George threatens to send **Nadia** to a Dubai sex club if Quinn refuses, and Quinn gives in by removing Isaak’s blood sample from evidence.

As Dexter keeps gathering evidence against Hannah, he decides to invite her on a date. Hannah initially declines, still shaken by her past with **Randall**, but eventually agrees. During the outing, Dexter finds himself unable to simply follow through with killing her. He drugs Hannah, takes her to a secluded abandoned amusement-park-like setting, straps her to his kill table, and tells her what he does. Hannah does not beg or fight; she tells him, “Do what you gotta do,” which catches Dexter off guard. Instead of killing her, he cuts her free, and the two end up having sex.

Elsewhere, **Debra** begins realizing that Dexter was not honest about the blood report connected to the Wayne Randall murders, and she is disturbed by what she learns. The episode leaves her increasingly unsettled as Dexter’s lies around Hannah and the investigation start to surface.
