Dexter Episode 83: Do You See What I See?
As Christmas approaches, Dexter tries to balance his life with Hannah and his relationship with Debra.
Full recap
Dexter spends the episode trying to balance his relationship with Hannah and his increasingly strained bond with Debra, while also preparing to kill the man connected to his mother’s murder. By the end, he learns he was manipulated, Debra is confirmed to have been poisoned, and the episode leaves Dexter cornered between Hannah, LaGuerta, and the fallout from his own choices.
Dexter is contacted by a corrections officer who tells him that Hector Estrada, the last surviving man tied to his mother’s killing, is up for parole. Dexter is shaken by the news and tells Hannah, who accepts that he intends to kill Estrada. At the same time, Dexter is still dealing with the pressure of his relationship with Debra and the growing danger Hannah poses to people around him.
Debra pushes harder against Hannah after meeting with Arlene Schramm, a witness connected to Hannah’s earlier violence, and trying to get her to testify. When Arlene reports this back to Hannah, Debra later suffers a frightening collapse and car accident after drinking water that has been laced with anti-anxiety medication. Dexter later gets lab confirmation that the water bottle found in Debra’s car contained alprazolam, proving that Hannah poisoned her.
Matthews calls Dexter to meet him on his boat and tells him that LaGuerta is investigating Dexter as the Bay Harbor Butcher. Matthews also reveals that the cabin connected to the investigation was owned by Santos Jimenez, which helps Dexter and Debra begin working to shift suspicion away from him. In response, Dexter takes steps to protect himself by planting evidence to redirect the investigation, including framing Doakes more strongly in the minds of others.
Dexter then goes after Estrada, setting up a kill in a shipping container at the harbor. But when Estrada realizes something is wrong, he accuses Dexter of working with LaGuerta, and Dexter discovers that LaGuerta arranged Estrada’s parole as part of a setup. Before Dexter can carry out the murder, LaGuerta and other officers arrive, forcing him to flee as Estrada escapes in the chaos.
After the failed kill, Dexter is left to process the double betrayal: LaGuerta has been manipulating him, and Hannah has poisoned Debra. He later picks Debra up from the hospital and gives her the pen Hannah used to kill Sal Price, giving Debra evidence against Hannah.
