Dexter Episode 86: Every Silver Lining...

Dexter is shown old footage of Dr. Vogel talking with Harry, where Harry is alarmed by Dexter’s fascination with a crime scene, and Vogel explains that she helped shape the approach that became the **Code of Harry**. She then tells Dexter that she believes the new killer known as the **Brain Surgeon** may be one of her former patients and asks him to find the killer, but Dexter refuses at first.

Miami Metro continues investigating the Brain Surgeon case, after the killer leaves a jar containing brain tissue from a victim found in a park, and the evidence points Dexter toward **Lyle Sussman** as a suspect. Dexter tracks Sussman down, but discovers that he has already been killed, and then Dexter and Vogel find a DVD left behind by the Brain Surgeon showing Sussman being forced at gunpoint to assist the killer, which proves Sussman was not the murderer after all.

At the same time, Debra keeps pursuing the stolen jewels from the earlier case and locates the storage unit where they were hidden, but she is attacked and robbed by **El Sapo**. El Sapo later turns up dead, and Dexter notices blood at the scene that does not belong to him, leading him to realize Debra was involved. Deb admits she shot El Sapo, though she is badly shaken and unclear on parts of what happened, and she asks Dexter to remove her gun from police evidence. Dexter complies and swaps out the weapon, keeping Deb’s actions hidden from the police.

The episode also briefly follows Quinn and Jamie as they argue about Quinn’s future and Batista’s involvement in their relationship. By the end of the episode, Vogel’s house has been broken into, and when Dexter arrives, he finds that the intruder left behind a DVD, linking the Brain Surgeon’s presence more directly to Vogel and deepening the case.
